RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

We have an exciting opportunity for an Operations Engineer on our team. Mancal Energy Inc. is a well-established oil and gas company with a proven track record of successful exploration and building core operating areas through organic drilling complemented with strategic acquisitions.  We are currently in the process of transforming our business with the goal of being one of the most effective and sustainable producers in the industry. 

The Operations Engineer will support the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of our wells, pipelines and facility processes and systems. The position is tailored for a professional engineer with foundational knowledge of operational engineering principles. Familiarity with central production treatment/storage/compression facilities, wells and related equipment, lease operating statements and safety principles are required. This position requires regular travel to the field to review operational optimization opportunities. 

The successful candidate will assume responsibility for the following:

  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols, regulations, and best practices in all operational activities.
  • Participate in incident investigations including root cause analysis, action planning and corrective actions.
  • Work closely with the area Foreman and Operations Superintendent to ensure production volumes are maintained, operating costs controlled, and projects executed in a compliant, efficient, cost effective, timely and safe manner.
  • Monitor and manage field assets, including wells, pipelines, and facilities, resolve operational challenges and ensure optimal performance, reliability, and cost-efficient operations.
  • Foster collaborative environment with field personnel to develop and implement engineered solutions to maintenance and operational issues.
  • Engage other key department (including Finance, Joint Venture, Production Revenue Accounting, and Commercial) and apply insight into monthly business performance, identifying and implementing opportunities to optimize area value.
  • Assist in developing operational documentation, including metering schematics, and operating procedures.
  • Resolve maintenance and operational issues by providing project scoping, feasibility, constructability, and preliminary cost estimating.
  • Provide direction and design interpretations for piping, pressure vessels, tanks, pumps, exchangers, compressors, and other mechanical equipment.
  • Work with Production Engineering analyze production data, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing solutions to enhance oil and gas production efficiency.
  • Analyse production data, cost trends, and performance metrics to identify opportunities for cost reduction and prepare comprehensive reports for management review.
  • Maintain Production Volume Reporting systems and ensure systems are functional and current.
  • Help to bring Business Intelligence reporting tools to teams throughout our organization including Dakota Analytics and Power Bi.
  • Help to automate workflows and find variables that spur action towards value creation.
  • Support reporting of operational metrics including internal and external benchmarking.
  • Stay up to date with industry regulations and standards, ensuring operations comply with all relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledgeable of corporate specifications, governing Codes (e.g.: ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, CSA Z662, API), Acts, Regulations and recommended practices.
  • Maintain regulatory compliance on wellbores, pipelines and facilities. This includes but is not limited to: inactive well, pipeline, and facility compliance, pipeline & facility licensing, GHG monitoring and compliance considerations.
  • Aid in executing MEI’s Methane Leak Detection and Repair programs, new emissions reduction initiatives, and assist with greenhouse gas reporting (TIER).

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

To meet the challenge of this role, we are seeking an enthusiastic, energetic, self-starter who works well in high levels of autonomy.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical (preferred), Process, Mechanical, Civil or related Engineering discipline
  • 5-10 years of relevant operations, facility, and production engineering experience.
  • Professional Engineer in good standing with APEGA.
  • Field Experience in Oil and Gas and/or Resource Industry an asset
  • Experience with emissions and associated regulatory reporting an asset (FEMP, Directive 60, NPRI, GHGRP, TIER)
  • Knowledge and application of frequently used codes (ASME B31.3, CSA Z662 etc.)
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with an ability to influence multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Must be able to multi-task effectively and manage competing deadlines.
  • Possess troubleshooting skills with an ability to make timely and consistent decisions on a broad variety of topics.
  • Strong software and computer literacy, comfortable learning new systems.
